GOING TO THE POT

This is the POT.  It is a converted paint pot with some alterations that allow it to hold 45 pounds of pressure for an extended period of time.  On some occasions we use the vacuum chamber (on the right) to extract all the air from the wood or the medium used to make the bowl, by applying full vacuum (25hhg) to the blank.  The air is vacuumed out of the blank so the resin can be infused into the blank when we place it in the pressure pot.

Keeping to simple language, we first draw the air molecules out (vacuum chamber) and then we replace the air with resin (epoxy in the pressure pot).  We then allow the pressure pot to keep the blank under pressure for at least three days.  We then open the pressure pot and view the blank and prep it for the lathe.  That's where it gets messy and epoxy shaving fly all over the shop.
